The I1-FLOW TRANSIT by Tecnopenta is a clamp-on ultrasonic flow meter designed to measure liquids flowing through pipes. The system uses transit-time technology to measure instantaneous flow rate and calculate totalized volume.
In the clamp-on configuration, the transducers are mounted directly on the outer surface of the pipe. Measurement is carried out without cutting the pipe or inserting any components into the flow, providing non-invasive flow measurement with the sensors completely isolated from the liquid.
The system supports bidirectional flow measurement and can be used with clean or moderately contaminated liquids, subject to verification of the application conditions.
The transit-time flow meter compares the travel times of ultrasonic pulses through the liquid in both directions. The signal travelling with the flow takes a different amount of time from the signal travelling against the flow.
This time difference is used to determine fluid velocity. Using the pipe data entered during configuration, the instrument calculates the instantaneous flow rate and continuously updates the totalized volume.
The clamp-on transducers are installed directly on the external surface of the pipe. No measuring body needs to be inserted into the pipeline and no internal modification of the system is required.
This configuration is particularly suitable when a non-invasive flow meter is required on an existing installation or when direct contact between the sensor and the process fluid must be avoided.
Transducer selection and positioning are determined according to pipe diameter, material and construction, liquid temperature and installation conditions.
The I1-FLOW TRANSIT range provides flow measurement for pipes from DN20 to DN4000 using different transducer configurations.
The fluid velocity measurement range extends up to ±12 m/s, allowing flow to be detected in both directions. Typical stated accuracy is ±1%, with repeatability of ±0.2% and linearity of ±0.5%.
Actual performance depends on the selected configuration and application conditions. Evaluating the pipe and fluid characteristics makes it possible to select the most appropriate sensors and installation arrangement.
The transmitter displays the instantaneous flow rate and totalized volume on a backlit alphanumeric LCD.
Local indication allows operating conditions and measured values to be checked directly at the installation point, while volume totalization provides the total quantity of liquid that has passed through the pipe over a selected period.
The flow meter provides a selectable 4–20 mA or 0–20 mA analogue output and RS485 communication with Modbus RTU protocol, allowing integration with compatible data acquisition, supervisory and remote monitoring systems.
A programmable frequency output, relay and digital output are also available. Data logging can be provided through an optional SD memory card or an external acquisition system connected via Modbus.
The processing unit is designed for wall mounting and has an IP66 protection rating, while the transducers are rated IP68.
In addition to the external clamp-on sensor configuration, insertion transducers are also available for specific applications. The most suitable configuration is selected according to pipe characteristics, fluid properties and installation requirements.
