Seismic Acquisition Software

The seismic acquisition software enables the complete management of seismic acquisitions and the saving of data in CSV format, facilitating import and analysis through spreadsheet software such as Excel and OpenOffice.

Main interface and features

The main software window provides automatic control of settings for saving acquisition data, with intuitive and detailed commands for configuring monitoring sessions.

Below are the main features.

File Writing Options

  • Add Date and Time: adds a column for date and time (hh/mm/ss.fff) for each data row.
  • Backup Log Files: if enabled, at the end of each acquisition session the “LogFile.csv” file is automatically saved as “LogFile__yyyy_mm_dd__hh_mm_ss.csv”. Recommended to avoid overwriting.
  • Empty Logfile on Exit: in combination with “Backup Log Files”, deletes the “LogFile.csv” file at the end of the session, storing data in the backup file to save space.
  • Julian Date Format: allows adding date and time in Julian format, ensuring greater compatibility with advanced analysis software (Matlab, Octave, KST).
  • Show Chart: displays charts of the 8 differential channels in real time. Recommended only for short acquisitions, as it requires high computational resources.

Channel Options - configuration parameters

  • Gain: the amplification factor can be adjusted based on the ADC converter settings, but it is recommended to keep it at unit value unless specific needs arise.
  • Interval: represents the sampling interval. Typical values include 1s (1Hz), 0.1s (10Hz), up to 0.001s (1000Hz), and intermediate values.
  • First and Consecutive Slots: define the channels to be recorded sequentially. The logger supports up to 48 channels, with the possibility of future upgrades.

Acquisition Commands

  • RUN (Manual Start): manually starts data recording. Once active, the “RUN” button turns yellow. If the software is closed during an acquisition, recording automatically resumes upon restart.

  • Start Schedule: allows automatic acquisition scheduling at predefined intervals, ensuring automatic start of recording sessions without manual intervention.

  • Logging Time: sets the duration of a single acquisition.
  • Repeat Times: defines the number of cycles (with the option to set “infinite” for continuous acquisition).
  • Log Every: specifies the time frequency of acquisitions, defined in hours, minutes, and seconds.
  • Start Hour: sets the start time for the scheduled cycle.
  • Log Days: selects the days of the week on which to run the cycle.

The generated log files will follow the format YYYYMMDD_HHmmss.csv (e.g. 20240314_131230.csv for a recording on March 14, 2024 at 13:12:30).

It is important that the system decimal separator is set to “.” (dot) to avoid formatting errors.

Other recommendations

It is recommended to periodically delete unnecessary log files to prevent logger memory overload. Keep the “Empty Logfile on Exit” option enabled in the file writing settings for optimal space management.

Additional software

The logger firmware management software is provided with the HAL application, which manages communication between hardware (PC-ADC24) and the acquisition software.

Although it offers several advanced options, it is recommended to avoid modifying default settings, as they have been validated in laboratory conditions.

Documentation for ADC24 converter configuration is also provided.
